BLOCK71 San Francisco is a collaborative initiative between three iconic Singapore organizations, NUS Enterprise, Singtel Inno8 and SGInnovate, who are passionate about actively engaging the global tech community and encourage entrepreneurial collaboration with leading tech ecosystems.

Job Description and Requirements: 

Goals & Objectives

Strengthen our BlOCK71 startup ecosystem in Silicon Valley and its linkages to other BLOCK71 locations in Southeast Asia and China.

Job Scope

* Lead the Community Management effort within the start-up and student community to achieve the following:

o Strengthen awareness of the BLOCK71 brand among tech investors, professionals, corporates, colleges and student bodies in San Francisco Bay Area;

o Serve the needs of Singapore start-ups aspiring to connect with the BLOCK71 San Francisco community, as well as US-based companies aspiring to venture into Southeast Asia via Singapore;

o Expose students of Singapore Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) and ASEAN students studying in US universities to the Silicon Valley startup ecosystem;

o Grow the global BLOCK71 ecosystem by strengthening the linkages between BLOCK71 SF and other BLOCK71 locations.

Duties & Responsibilities

a) Community Management Strategy: Work with existing team to develop strategies and plans to grow the BLOCK71 start-up ecosystem in SF while keeping abreast of BLOCK71 developments and initiatives in other locations; initiate new programs and services to create connections and support start-up growth, including events, mentorship and member introductions; grow and manage network of mentors, advisors and resources for both students and start-ups.

b) Events & Event Planning: Serve as brand ambassador for BLOCK71 and attend entrepreneurial events within the SF area to grow network of contacts, strengthen brand awareness, and remain apprised of entrepreneurial trends and industries; plan and organize events for our community

c) Content creation & social media marketing: writing blog posts, articles, newsletters and communications materials for social media channels; manage and grow our presence through blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other strategically relevant online channels

d) Community & Customer Relations: Responsible for customer support, improving the experience for community members and managing queries from community members; develop and execute university outreach and relationship management plan to increase student community within BLOCK71, focusing on students from Singapore universities; ASEAN universities with entrepreneurial programs in SF; as well as ASEAN students who are studying/ based in SF; manage and maintain relationships with vendors and landlords.

e) Analytics & Reporting: Using Google Analytics and other measurement tools to capture data and report on metrics and continually find ways to improve on those metrics through testing and new initiatives; maintain list of useful member resources and contacts.

f) Business Development: Seek to increase number of community members, the number of attendees and speakers for our community events and event sponsorships

Experience & Requirements

* BA / BS or equivalent in Business, Marketing, or other

* Outgoing personality – you will be required to walk into networking events and be comfortable introducing yourself to strangers and our event speakers to the audience

* Writing skills – you must have strong verbal and written communication skills, preferably in a second language like Chinese or Bahasa Indonesia or Bahasa Melayu, in addition to English

* Experience and interest in education, entrepreneurship and Asia – you need to be passionate about what we do and what we are about; preferably, you should have understanding and experience managing cross-border business development, primarily between US and Southeast Asia (Singapore)

* Software skills and social media experience – you must be proficient in PowerPoint, Excel and Word; and have experience in using Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and other social media platforms for business

* Culture fit – we are a small group in SF and would prefer someone who can work with the existing team, and someone who demonstrates integrity, dependability, responsibility, accountability, self-awareness, work ethic and empathy, and has initiative and exceptional organizational and multitasking skills in a fast paced environment
